Photography in the life of Gianluca Pizzichi
Castiglione della Pescaia

"Gianluca Pizzichi was born and lives in Siena, where he has been attracted by the visual arts since he was a boy. At the age of fifteen he began painting, transferring to canvas the world that surrounded him: in other words the stunning landscapes offered by the Tuscan countryside.

Over those years his artistic training and approach were strongly influenced by nineteenth-century landscape painting and, in particular, by Impressionism and by the so-called “Macchiaioli” school.

The spirit of this latter artistic movement (born and bred in Tuscany) was in perfect harmony with Gianluca’s rather shy and self-effacing character. In effect, he expresses himself precisely through a non-academic landscape painting, filtered through the sensitivity of the individual who loves to be alone in the midst of nature, letting his eyes be filled to overflowing with it and painting exactly what he sees.

Gianluca and Franco Fontana

In the early 1990s he discovered photography and his conceptual approach to painting was, although not entirely unaltered, certainly distinctly present even in the transition from brushes to lenses and films, and more recently to the digital sphere. The objective and natural appeal of the “Lands of Tuscany” is thus proposed, expanded and enhanced by the sensitivity and expressive expertise of the artist.

From 1993 to the present Gianluca has been collaborating with various local and national newspapers and journals, has displayed his work at one-man and group shows in various cities, has taken part in several  exhibitions and displayed at a number of galleries, obtaining prizes and awards.
